What does a registered agent actually do?

A registered agent accepts legal documents and official state mail on behalf of your business. In Arkansas, this includes service of process (lawsuits), Secretary of State correspondence, franchise tax notices, and compliance communications. The agent must maintain a physical street address in Arkansas and be available there during normal business hours.

Who is required to have a registered agent in Arkansas?

The state imposes a $25 late penalty plus 10% interest per year on unpaid amounts. If you continue to ignore the requirement, the Secretary of State can administratively dissolve your entity — meaning your LLC or corporation loses its legal standing until reinstated.

Do you accept packages or general mail?

Packages are declined. General correspondence is also not what the registered agent address is for. Here is the longer answer, broken out by the kinds of mail that actually reach our office in the state.

Legal service sits in a class by itself. When somebody arrives to serve your business — a complaint, a subpoena, a citation, a garnishment writ — we image it that same business day, drop it into your portal, and post a notification. No charge. No annual ceiling. The Arkansas $99/yr fee fundamentally exists to make that guarantee.

Public-sector letters follow a different rule. Mail from the AR Secretary of State, mail from DFA (the AR Department of Finance and Administration), IRS notices, and mail from comparable bodies all draw on an annual pool of three zero-charge same-arrival-day scans. After that pool is used up, every additional government item gets billed individually. Pricing is binary per piece: a flat charge to image it digitally, or a flat charge to ship the paper letter via USPS. Mutually exclusive on a per-item basis.

Routine correspondence — marketing, junk, plus the trust-verification pieces typically sent by services like Google's local-business program and Amazon's marketplace program, plus comparable mail from other verification services — is not handled, period. Boxes and parcels are likewise refused on arrival.

Mailing anything physically out of our office sits outside the $99/yr fee. Every shipment carries its own line-item charge.

Operations that genuinely process inbound mail volume should sign up for the virtual mailbox separately. It is contracted on its own terms, not bundled with the registered agent service.
